Toddler Programs

For ages 18 months to 36 months, the Toddler program offers a unique Montessori environment in which each child has the freedom to pursue his/her natural curiosity in a safe place. This individual freedom is always tempered by two important limits that will be beneficial for a lifetime: 1) respect for self and others, and 2) respect for the environment.

Practical Life

Practical life activities lay the foundation for the child’s introduction to school. The purpose of these activities is to develop concentration, a sense of order, independence, development of fine motor skills and satisfaction in a job well done.

Sensorial

As Maria Montessori said, “children can see through their hands and that’s how they explore the world”. Sensorial materials are designed to allow the child to compare, discriminate, contrast and distinguish various items.

Math

The child’s mind has a natural tendency for counting. Various counters and simple numbers will help to build a mathematical foundation for future studies.

Language

Simple and familiar objects and books help to build vocabulary, with matching pictures or objects helping the child to focus on details. Learning letter sounds with sandpaper letters and objects helps the child successfully blend sounds into words.

Cultural Studies

The study of culture includes geography, botany, zoology and science experiments. The purpose at this age level is to encourage the child in their inherent curiosity and to permanently stimulate their interest in the fascinating world around us.

Music

TLC Montessori’s music program engages all the children in singing, listening, and playing instruments. These fun activities encourage a child’s interest in expressive music-making and help to build a music vocabulary. Children are introduced to musical elements such as pitch, tempo, dynamics, duration, and timbre, which are incorporated in singing games, multicultural action songs and movement.

Foreign Language

Our foreign language program provides children at all levels with the opportunity to speak, listen, and learn enough Spanish to engage in simple conversations. Our weekly foreign language class introduces words and phrases used in everyday life, such as numbers, riddles, poems, and songs.

Movement

All of TLC Montessori’s students participate in structured physical activities in small groups every week. The activities are designed to develop small and large muscle groups, coordination, listening skills, teamwork, and confidence.
